Frequently asked questions
Who needs to take the SSSTS course?
The SSSTS course is aimed at anyone with supervisory responsibilities on a construction site, including site supervisors, chargehands, gang leaders, and trainee supervisors. It is often required for obtaining a gold CSCS supervisor card and is one of the most common qualifications for front-line construction supervisors.
What is the difference between SSSTS and SMSTS?
SSSTS is a two-day course for supervisors and covers the practical day-to-day management of health and safety. SMSTS is a five-day course for site managers and covers more detailed legal, regulatory, and strategic aspects. SMSTS is the more comprehensive qualification and is aimed at a higher management level.
How long is the SSSTS certificate valid?
The SSSTS certificate is valid for five years. Before it expires, you must complete a one-day SSSTS Refresher course to maintain your qualification. If your certificate lapses, you will need to retake the full two-day course.
