NVQ Reviews (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the website nvqreviews.co.uk. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you visit our site or use our services. We are committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide directly
When you use our mock tests, you may be asked to provide your email address to access premium content. If you use our AI chat assistant (“NVQ Expert”), you may voluntarily provide additional information such as your name, email address, phone number, and funding preference in order to request an assessor call, or your email address to join our email list. You can use the site without providing any of this information. Full details of how the AI chat assistant works are in Section 7 below.
Information collected automatically
When you visit our site, we may automatically collect certain technical information including your IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, time spent on pages, and referring website. This information is collected through cookies and similar technologies (see Section 5 below).
Test progress data
Our mock tests use your browser’s local storage to save your test progress, scores, and preferences. This data is stored entirely on your device and is not transmitted to our servers.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
To provide access to our premium mock tests and educational content. To operate our AI chat assistant and help you understand which construction qualification fits your experience. To pass enrolment enquiries to our training centre partner so they can contact you about a course. To send you occasional emails about new study resources, test updates, and content relevant to construction qualifications. To understand how visitors use our site so we can improve our content and user experience. To maintain the security and performance of our website.
3. Lawful Basis for Processing
Under UK GDPR, we rely on the following lawful bases for processing your personal data:
Consent – When you enter your email address to access our premium content or join our email list, you consent to receiving occasional emails from us. When you submit an enrolment enquiry through our AI chat assistant, you consent to your contact details being shared with our training centre partner. You can withdraw this consent at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email or by contacting us directly.
Legitimate interests – We process certain technical data (such as analytics and AI chat conversation logs) based on our legitimate interest in understanding how our site is used and improving our services. This processing is balanced against your rights and does not override your interests.
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We share your data with trusted service providers who help us operate our website and services, as follows:
Hosting – Our website is hosted by EasyWP/Namecheap, who store our database and files.
Email services – We use an email service provider to deliver our newsletter and transactional emails.
AI processing – Messages you send to our AI chat assistant are processed by Anthropic, PBC (United States). See Section 7 for full details.
Training centre partner – If you submit an enrolment enquiry through the AI chat assistant or through any other lead form on the site, your contact details are shared with our training centre partner so an assessor can arrange a call with you.
These providers are bound by data processing agreements and may only use your data to provide services to us. We may also disclose your information if required by law or to protect our legal rights.
5. Cookies and Tracking
Our site uses cookies and similar technologies. These include:
Essential cookies – Required for the website to function properly, including WordPress session cookies and security cookies.
Analytics cookies – We may use analytics tools to understand how visitors interact with our site. These cookies collect anonymous, aggregated data about page views, traffic sources, and user behaviour.
Local storage – Our mock tests and our AI chat assistant use your browser’s local storage for functional purposes such as saving your test progress and grouping your chat turns into a single conversation. This is not a cookie and is not transmitted to our servers. You can clear this data through your browser settings at any time.
You can manage your cookie preferences through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect the functionality of certain features on our site.
6. Affiliate Links and Third-Party Sites
Our site contains affiliate links to third-party retailers and service providers including Amazon and others. When you click an affiliate link, you will be directed to that third party’s website, which has its own privacy policy and data practices. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these external sites. Please refer to our Affiliate Disclosure for more information.
7. AI Chat Assistant
We operate an AI-powered chat assistant (“NVQ Expert”) on our website. It is there to help you understand which construction qualification might suit your experience and, on our mock test pages, to help you work through tricky CSCS questions. The following explains how the assistant processes your data.
How messages are processed
When you send a message through the chat, the message content is transmitted to Anthropic, PBC, a company based in the United States, via their API in order to generate a response. Anthropic acts as a data processor on our behalf under their Data Processing Addendum. Anthropic does not use messages sent via their API to train their models by default.
What we store
We store the full conversation in our own database to help us improve the assistant and understand what our visitors are asking. Each conversation is associated with a randomly generated session identifier, a hashed (one-way encrypted) version of your IP address, your browser user agent, and the URL of the page you were on when you opened the chat. We do not store your name, email address or phone number unless you voluntarily submit them through the chat’s forms.
Enrolment enquiries
If you choose to submit an enrolment enquiry through the chat, your name, email address, phone number and funding preference are shared with our training centre partner so an assessor can contact you directly. This is the only purpose for which these details are used, alongside notifying our internal team.
Email list signups
If you choose to join our email list through the chat, your email address is added to our mailing list and managed as described in Section 1 above.
International transfers
Because Anthropic is based in the United States, using the chat assistant involves a transfer of your message data outside the UK/EEA. This transfer is protected by Anthropic’s Data Processing Addendum, which incorporates Standard Contractual Clauses as approved by the UK Information Commissioner’s Office.
Legal basis
We rely on legitimate interests for operating the assistant and logging conversations to improve the service. We rely on consent for processing any contact details you voluntarily submit through the enrolment or email list forms within the chat.
Your control
You can stop using the assistant at any time, and you are never required to submit any personal information to the chat. You can request a copy or deletion of your conversation by contacting us using the details in Section 13 below, providing the approximate date and time of the chat and the page you were on so we can locate the correct record.
8. Your Rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
Right of access – You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you. Right to rectification – You can ask us to correct any inaccurate data. Right to erasure – You can ask us to delete your personal data. Right to restrict processing – You can ask us to limit how we use your data. Right to data portability – You can request your data in a machine-readable format. Right to object – You can object to our processing of your data based on legitimate interests. Right to withdraw consent – You can withdraw your consent for email communications at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details below. We will respond to your request within one month.
9. Data Retention
We retain your email address for as long as you remain subscribed to our communications. If you unsubscribe, we will delete your email address within 30 days. Analytics data is retained in anonymised form and cannot be linked back to you as an individual.
Conversations with our AI chat assistant are retained for up to 12 months to help us improve the service, after which they are deleted.
Enrolment enquiries submitted through the AI chat assistant or through any other lead form on the site are retained as part of our enquiry records for up to 24 months.
10. Data Security
We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. Our website uses SSL encryption to protect data transmitted between your browser and our servers.
11. Children’s Privacy
Our site is not directed at children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
